Emprendedores features Riera Consulting and its fight for tax justice
Emprendedores magazine has published a feature on Riera Consulting in its success stories section, titled “Riera Consulting: the fight for tax justice”. The article looks back at the firm and at its managing partner, Víctor Riera, the fourth generation of a family of lawyers, who combines academic research as a Doctor of Law, lecturer, speaker and author with day-to-day litigation.
The piece recalls that Riera Consulting won the ProDespachos Award for the most innovative professional solution or service at the latest Emprendedores Awards, a recognition that went beyond technology and rewarded the firm’s defence of a fairer legal system. It also explains the complaint Víctor Riera filed with the European Commission in 2020 against the tax discrimination suffered in Spain by EU officials, UN staff, other international agents and digital nomads, who are denied tax benefits that other residents enjoy: the main-home exemption in Wealth Tax, the reductions in Inheritance and Gift Tax, no deemed income on the home in personal income tax, and the rollover relief when the main home is sold and the proceeds reinvested.
The article also covers the firm’s work on the taxation of international civil servants’ pensions, commissioned by the Spanish Association of International Civil Servants (AFIE), the opening of offices in Madrid and Barcelona, and the roll-out of artificial intelligence across the firm. Víctor Riera says he is “proud of the impact of my team’s work, which directly benefits people, promotes tax justice and inspires other professionals”.
